ONE life: The Woman Who Can't Stop Lying

BBC1

Producer / Director: Katinka Newman

Exec Producer: Jess Fowle

BBC Exec Producer: Todd Austin

This is the story of one woman’s intricately constructed lies, the fantasy life she tried to build for herself and what happened when she was finally found out.

Caroline Morgan convinced a string of lovers that she was dying from cancer. She told them her daughter had died. She told them a relative had left her £66 million in his will, but that she needed money to live on until she could collect the legacy. She lied about how many kids she had and how many relationships she’d been in. She lied about having a brain tumour, and acted out an improvised routine of ‘head aches’, ‘pain’ and a sudden loss of the ability to talk and swallow. And she claims not to know why she did it.

The Woman Who Can’t Stop Lying unites three of Caroline’s former partners and compares their stories of life with the woman they all adored. They discover the real depths of her deceit and infidelity; they’re shocked to find out that the daughter Caroline had told them had died, was alive and well;  and we hear how a friend of her most recent boyfriend finally rumbled Caroline.

As well as telling the story of Caroline’s lies through the eyes of her partners, True North also gained the first and only interview with Caroline after she was released from prison where she had been serving a sentence for fraud. We follow her to meet with her most recent boyfriend Steve, who confronts Caroline about her intentions and her reasoning.
