True North has risen up the league table of UK independent production companies, in an annual survey by industry publication Broadcast.
Broadcast’s 2009 Indie Survey ranks True North 67th out of the Top 100 independent production companies in the UK – a substantial rise from 90th place last year.
With over 90 hours of programming and 137 hours of repeats broadcast last year, True North’s position as one of the busiest factual production companies in the country was confirmed. The company’s successes range from returning series like Animal 24:7 (now approaching 100 episodes) to high-profile and high impact single documentaries like Shannon: The Mother of All Lies which was the BBC’s highest rated current affairs programme of the year, with 5.7 million viewers.
True North was also listed 16th largest production company outside London, up from 23rd last year and the tenth biggest supplier of factual programming in the UK.
